There are things I don't like about this device. The curved screen isn't my favorite. The lack of an SD card slot is a bummer. Not a big fan of not having the 3.5mm jack. The camera app is plain bad, there is almost no control over settings, you can't even pick the resolution of the pictures you take, only choose from basically low or high.
This flavor of Android isn't great, in my opinion, you have very little control compared to other versions I've used. There was no transfer app, which was a big problem because of the lack of aforementioned SD card slot. I literally had to track down a Verizon one and sync my phones using a problematic app that failed consistently and jumbled everything up on the other end. I never could get my text messages to sync. And I had to redownload most apps because they didn't transfer. All my media types got jumbled up into one giant folder rather than it cloning the folders like it was supposed to. They should have included something, setting the phone up was a pain.
Getting used to the weird Android changes that often removes control or hides common things deep in menu's is stressful. Not sure who is responsible: Google or Motorola, or both, but I wish they hadn't done it.
The phone is very slick, like slide around on a flat surface slick; very easy to drop. I'd get a case right away.
It is built well, though, and sleek looking. I had to turn the saturation on the screen down, however, because it is hard on the eyes in low light.
It is fast and the screen is nice. I don't like the changes they made to the expected process for restarting and shutting the phone down, however. That button has been reconfigured into a Google Assistant thing and the power controls have been moved to a digital pull-down menu. Boo.
I've had issues running apps on this phone that worked great on my last phone - but this one has a much faster processor and RAM, and the two phones were on the same version of Android, so I don't know why that is currently happening. Some apps cleaned up their act after a while, however, but others are still acting weird. I'm hoping it will resolve itself after a while.
Activation was simple. The phone sounds great! And calls are crisp and clear.
The camera I'm still learning. It takes good up-close shots, but landscape photography is not its thing. At least I've had poor results so far. Like I said I'm still finding out what works best. Selfie camera is just okay. I wish there were more controls. It doesn't give you a lot to work with, it is too simple and that is probably why results are mixed so far. I'll update after I give it a better shake.
I don't game on these things much, so I can't say how well that performs. I generally use it for editing images, surfing the internet, and communication. One of the apps I use is in that "currently having unexplained glitches" category that I'm hoping will fix itself.
All-in-all the phone is growing on me, the screen is very smooth and precise. Typing is a pleasure compared to some other phones I've used. I'm not sure it's all on Motorola or if it's their pretty bare version of Android that lacks some of the controls I've become accustomed to seeing.
I'll update this review if I feel like things have improved. So far I have mixed feelings about this phone. It definitely feels like a premium device, but not allowing the simple transfer of data between your old device and new device while not including an SD card slot is a dirty move, it made setup a real pain.
And the charger they included is not the 68w charger that is supposed to be with the device, they instead included a cheap Samsung charger originally designed to be used with the Galaxy S6. It costs $60 to purchase the charger that was supposed to be included. So you may want to factor that into the cost if you care about that little detail.
